FAQ

Question: How should I use pecan oil?

Answer: You can use pecan oil in the same way you would use olive oil or butter.

Question: Is pecan oil considered a healthy oil?

Answer: Yes, it is a very healthy oil to use in your everyday cooking. Pecan oil has 1/3 less saturated fat than olive oil and 2/3’s less than butter. It has more omega 3 & 6 fatty acids and has three times the vitamin E levels of olive oil.

Question: What is the “smoke point” of a cooking oil?

Answer: The “smoke point” of a cooking oil is the temperature at which it will start to breakdown and burn. Most olive oils and butter have a smoke point of around 300 degrees .

Question: Does pecan oil have a high smoke point?

Answer: Yes, pecan oil has a smoke point of 470 degrees. The higher the smoke point, the better the oil will perform such as when you grill or saute delicate meats like fish and shrimp. The pecan oil will not let the heat burn your food so the outside is crispy and the inside retains its moisture.

Question: Can I bake with pecan oil?

Answer: Yes, pecan oil is a great substitute for shortening or other vegetable oils as it lends more moisture to the baking process. Pecan oil does not have much of a flavor so your cakes, pies and cornbread always come out fresh and moist.

Question: What does pecan oil taste like? Does it have a pecan taste?

Answer: Pecan oil is deoderized to remove the bits and pieces of pecan fragments from the oil that can make it go rancid fairly quickly. This also gives the oil a slight nutty/buttery flavor that  is almost neutral. The oil really does not have much of a pecan taste making it great for everything you cook!

Question: What is the shelf life of pecan oil?

Answer: Our pecan oil lasts for one year in an unopened bottle when you buy it at the store. Once opened, the pecan oil will last six months on your counter. If you want it to last even longer, you can keep it in the refrigerator and it will never go rancid and will not get cloudy since we remove the wax from the oil.

Question: How much does pecan oil cost?

Answer: Pecan oil is considered a gourmet quality cooking oil and costs about as much as a good quality extra virgin olive oil. Like they say, you get what you pay for.
